2.
It's Just A Marketing Gimmick :
While many people believe this to be
the case it's, in fact, not true. All foods that are labelled as
"Organic" must adhere to industry standards placed upon it by the
USDA. Foods that are organic must follow these guidelines in order for it to be
approved by the USDA: have had only natural fertilizers applied (such as
manure or compost), have used only beneficial insects and birds, mating
disruption or traps to reduce pests and disease, rotate crops, till hand weed
or mulch to manage weeds, and give animals organic feed.
3.
It's More Costly :
This really depends on where you
buy. If you buy seasonal fresh fruits and veggies from your closest farmers
market, it will be cheaper than buying fruits and vegetables that are
imported into the country and put on sale at your local grocery store. Try
checking out different health food stores, specialty stores, and
community - supported agriculture programs, and I guarantee that you will find
some organic food that isn't just fresh but cheap as well.
4.
No Nutritional Difference Between Conventional Food :
Organic foods tend to have more food regulations placed upon it thus prohibiting
the use of such chemicals as: phosphoric acid, preservatives, colourings,
hydrogenated fat, antibiotics, and thousands of other artificial flavourings.
On the other hand, conventional food tends to have residue that remains from
the various chemicals used for growing it. In addition, when buying meat, the
use of growth enhancing drugs is restricted in organic farming while
conventional farming tends to enforce the use of these drugs on cattle in order
to have more meat produce to sell. This type of cattle rearing is directly
correlated with the increasing amount of E.coli found in conventional beef.
5.
Organic Food Makes You Lose Weight :
While it is healthier for you,
organic food can still make you gain weight. For example, eating organic butter
would still make you gain weight because butter is butter; the calories are
almost identical no matter how it's made. It's important to understand that no
matter how the food is made; the calories and the nutrients will remain very
similar to conventional foods. The only difference between the two being
that one is made in a more "old-fashioned" way, in which, little to
no chemicals are used.
6.
Organic Food Tastes Worse :
Actually, a recent consumer poll
found that many organic foods tend to rank higher than conventional foods on
the taste tests. The reasoning behind this comes from the fact that organic fruits
and vegetables are usually much riper than their conventional counterparts.
